The Tombs

Visited back in May and hadn’t left a compliment yet! Nice and cozy down below. Had a back corner booth for the 4 of us. Good food, nice bottle of Prosecco…dimly lit. Very friendly waiter, good vibes. Big fan of The Exorcist, been wanting to go for years knowing a scene was shot inside, also sweet that the house and steps are right across the street on Prospect. Lovely Georgetown evening. Will definitely be back.

If you google “American college bar” they just point you to a picture of the Tombs. The hot chicken sandwich was tasty, if a little bit small for the price. The wings were good spice level. The old bay fries are something else entirely. Will be using old bay when I make fries at home from now on. The server behind the bar was super nice, took the wings off the bill when they came a bit too late.

The atmosphere of this restaurant, though not elegant, was a good college dive spot. And, as such, we really enjoyed it. We had the chicken rice salad and the chili. Both dishes were decent. The chili tasted more like baked beans. The service was great. Everyone was friendly and efficient. Fun to be where the 80s movie St. Elmo's Fire was filmed and enjoy local Georgetown.

This is a hidden gem. I couldn't have found it even if I googled it. The only reason I found it was because I wanted to visit the stairs from the exorcist. And after we've been there we wanted to have something to eat. As I wrote before, this restaurant is a hidden gem. Totally worth a visit. Really friendly staff. The woman (who worked Monday afternoon 31/7-23 was super. She was very friendly and helpful. Nice drinks. Great food. A nice atmosphere. If you're in the neighborhood you must try this restaurant.

Fun find on our trip to DC! We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and were served quickly and efficiently. Didn’t order food but the food other people got looked and smelled good, like the Buffalo wings. The space was pretty small, we were lucky to find an open seat at the bar. It has a college vibe. They offer pitchers of beer.

I recently went to the Tombs with a couple members from my coaching staff after a game. It was during one of the March madness tournament games, so there were a lot of people there. Luckily, we had a booth that was comfortable and adjacent to the crowd. Our host was good, she did a great job, getting our drinks and food in a timely manner. A lot of energy at this place, most will consider it a College Bar. The food was fantastic. I love the nachos. Look forward to going back again.

The Tombs offers a five star experience across the board. Its grassroots started off in the local neighborhood when Georgetown University alumnus Richard McCooey founded the establishment in 1962. The ambiance is unique and based on a classic university tavern mixed with a traditional 'mom and pop' restaurant vibe. The Tombs offers daily specials on Thursdays I enjoy the $15 pitchers of Shock Top that run till 10 p.m. I also ordered the Eggplant Parmesan which was quite filling and savory. The service was second to none and my bill came out to around $43 after tip. Make sure you also ask the servers how you can get your name on the bar! As a current Hoya Saxa, I enjoyed the atmosphere which was filled with younger undergrads to older alumni. I highly recommend visiting the Tombs if you are looking for a great place to eat in the Georgetown neighborhood.
