We must echo the common sentiment here about the outstanding food creativity and uber-friendly service. Every time we are in Madrid we stop here, usually twice. The first time we came we had the caprese salad for starter and dessert, no kidding. The space can be a bit daunting, it's smallish and usually crowded but just walk in, belly up to space along the wall or bar, order a glass of wine, there's a wine board up front near the doors usually with a recommendation. Relax your pace, experiment with food recommendations; there is a print menu floating around and a chalked out partial menu on a central post. No English menu that I'm aware of but the staff will work with you. Good time to use Google translate or the like too. You'll be so glad you stopped here.

While in Madrid, we researched places we wanted to try and came across this place and had to make a reservation! €1 extra on each main dish if you sit in the back (didn't know that before coming but you get your own table space right near the kitchen with extremely attentive waiters/waitresses which I think was worth it among all the hustle and bustle) We started out with the caprese salad with straciatella - absolutely love burrata and tomatoes, their fresh ingredients make this one of the highlights from our meal! Beef Cheek with rosemary cheese cream - it was good, meat was extremely tender, but about the same as other places Crunchy Soft Shell Crabs - THE BEST and WELL WORTH IT. Man, this was so delicious, I wish I could get another plate, although one of the crabs got the best of me and a sharp pincer got stuck in the roof of my mouth but it was well worth it! Razor shells with coconut cream, lime and corlander - not sure I would get this again, the coconut cream hits you first and then you get a slight aftertaste of lime but I think I prefer the standard grilled razor clams with salt and pepper. Duck Dumpling with boletus mushroom and truffle - wasn't anything special, we only ordered 2 and were glad we didn't order a set of 4! Besides, the point of tapas is to try a little of everything! Then we got the Ground dessert - SO GOOD. Our waitress was so nice, she said that if we guessed the secret ingredient she'd give us free shots and my fiancee guessed it right! Service was superb and the house white, red, and tinto de verano are spectacular. I would HIGHLY recommend coming here and ordering their soft shell crabs and caprese salad. Frankly, you could probably order anything off this menu and you wouldn't be disappointed!

I honestly cannot tell you what things I ate here, but I can tell you that this was absolutely my favorite restaurant during our Spain trip. I came here with my husband with the intention to try one small dish and then proceed to the next restaurant. We enjoyed the food so much that we just had our entire dinner here. La Berenjena is a bit small, but the food was magical! The waiter was extremely friendly and was very attentive and explained to us how each dish was prepared. We asked for their popular dishes and ordered a few of 'em. I would highly recommend the Caprese salad -- regardless if you like vegetables or not, this dish will not disappoint. The vinegar used here was spectacular and addicting. They also seemed to use burrata cheese instead of mozzarella cheese. The textures and flavors all complimented each other. Our second dish were those long razor clams. This was an interesting dish that seemed like it was going to be a trainwreck due all the flavors they had going. The clam + coconut sauce + Sriracha + who knows what else didn't sound too good. Surprisingly, I ENJOYED IT A LOT (and I don't even like coconut!) The flavors ended up mixing really well together and it felt like a very satisfying appetizer. The last dish was a "faux risotto". The dish tastes like normal risotto, but the chef used mini pasta instead of rice. This wasn't my favorite dish. It was good, but it did not taste as spectacular like the other two. I also ordered their mojito. I couldn't taste any of the alcohol, but the drink was really refreshing. There was a bunch of sugar rocks at the bottom, but YOLO. I would definitely come here again and recommend this place if you're around the area!

Food was delicious, for the most part. I had some wine, the caprese salad and the mushroom risotto and it was tasty. But, then the beef cheek arrived. I dont know what it had on it, some sort of thinly sliced greenish vegetable, but i took my first bite and it tasted exactly like vomit. I am giving 4 stars because i think the other dishes were very good, but be warned about the beef cheek unless you enjoy getting PTSD about past nights where you drank way too much and are hugging the toilet.

If there is one restaurant I would really like to come back to in the future upon returning to Madrid, it's La Berenjena. My husband and I had the caprese salad, the navaja razor clams, and the faux risotto, by recommendation from the waiter. He told us these 3 dishes were very popular. We originally were going to order other items, but decided to take the waiter's recommendations and try the caprese salad and the navaja clams. -- I normally like CAPRESE SALAD already, but the one at La Berenjena was mind blowing. It was made with sweet tomato chunks, creamy burrata mozarella, and some amazing, addicting dressing. I didn't think there was much to a caprese salad, but the version here is unbelievably good. -- The NAVAJA RAZOR CLAMS were also cooked to perfection and covered in some ridiculously addicting sauce consisting of coconut milk and olive oil among other things. Again it was sweet and savory and unbelievably delicious. My spouse and I could not believe our taste buds and both of these dishes were out of this world. We consequently decided we would make room in our stomachs for more food from La Berenjena, so added on the faux risotto afterwards. -- The RISOTTO FALSO is interesting because it is actually made of little rice-shaped pasta pieces. The dish was very creamy and had plenty of mushrooms in it. It is extremely flavorful and savory, but was a bit salty for our tastes. I'm generally of the mentality of: "Why go twice to the same restaurant while traveling when there are thousands of others to try?" However, our experience at La Berenjena has overridden that sentiment, and I really hope to come back in the future.

This restaurant is right near where we live but we never discovered it until a friend took us there. I could have made love to the risotto and the Tomato basil and cheese salad. I can rightfully say I would recommend this to every passer-by on the street. Go here and feast on the feast that is fulfilling in every way :-)

my absolutely favorite tapas place in Madrid. I came here for lunch one day and liked it so much I came back the next day for a long lazy lunch with my husband. Try the razor clams and caprese salad. And then you'll want to write your own incredible yelp review.

Atencion rapida. genial!
