Halphen Red Burgers

We have been going to this burger place since it opened a few years ago. The burgers have always been the best and the service remarkable. My last two visits have brought a halt to this excellence. My phone orders were both incorrectly taken and overcharged. I had to correct the order and spend in excess of 30 minutes waiting for the correct order. ( the reason one calls in.....so you don't have to wait). Additionally, The counter was dirty, catsup and mustard condiment containers were frozen in place , the service was horrid and the burgers were dry and overcooked. I can only assume there has been a change in supervision there. I would hope some one at Halphen reads this. There HAS been no finer place ( yes even better than in and out burgers) to get a fair priced delicious burger. This place has changed and it is time to look for another burger place.

Tried this place out after hearing about from a friend. It's a small little mom & pop style burger joint. Feeling hungry that day, I had the 1/2 lb burger with garlic fries. Everything was on point! The meat patty was cooked properly, the bun was fresh, and everything else was to the right proportions. I opted for grilled onions which makes any burger better. The garlic fries were delicious and not overly garlic-y. What makes this burger unique though is their sauce! It's similar to other places' secret sauce, but I believe Halphen Red can hold it's own against the competition. It's got the right amount of tangy-ness and flavor that compliments the burger well. The service at this place was exceptional as well. I remember the guy behind the counter stated it was first day, but he handled himself with well and was friendly. As it was my first time eating there, he offered his recommendations with enthusiasm. Definitely will eat here again!

Overall, I was very disappointed with this place. After the good reviews I decided to give it a try. I ordered the classic bacon cheeseburger and the giant burger combos. The first thing I noticed were the fries: They're the same fries McDonald's uses. They get soggy just as fast, too. The burger was also low quality. The bun was a standard sesame seed bun - also quite like a McDonald's burger. Lettuce was shredded - I suspect pre shredded bag stuff. The tomato was cut thin and there was a single slice on the "giant" burger. Onion was thin and lightly caramelized. The one positive I can relay about the burger was that the double patties were thick and not junk. The burger was very greasy and quickly soaked through the bun. The cost, after tip, was just under 30$. To be honest, I could get the same thing from McDonalds, Wendy's or Burger King for 20$ and not drive so far.
