Haywood Common

Delicious! My husband and I stopped in for a late brunch and we’re at first just happy to find somewhere that wasn’t packed. We got the breakfast sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries and the basic breakfast. Everything was absolutely delicious! We were shocked for how good the food was that it wasn’t busier. HIGHLY recommend the breakfast sandwich but I don’t think you could go wrong with anything.

Food was great. But the whole method to get your food and drinks was confusing and took too long. It was frustrating enough that I would not come back. Also a lack of awareness by the employees to read the customers. No sense of urgency at all. Person at register helped customers in front of us for a good 20 minutes. I counted. And literally, all they had to do was pick something and pay for it. There was a ton of small talk and friendly banter, which would be good! 'If' there wasn't a huge line that was growing by the second..

Beers and cocktails. Nice outdoor area for large groups to hang. Lastly, exceptional food. Small menu but everything is well made. I ordered the trout melt and cucumber salad. It was exceptional. That sourdough was perfectly toasted. The trout flawlessly seared with crisp skin. The Wasabi aioli paired well with the rest of the sandwich.

There are not enough superlatives to describe how fantastic this place is! Flavor profiles that are unique and fresh, and a staff that is welcoming and warm. We had the Thai Buffalo Chicken sandwich with the cucumber salad, the Trout Melt, and something that is a must have, the Feta Fries. Everything was delicious from the first bite to the last!

Omg the food was so good. Everything was fresh and had immaculate flavor. Thankfully we came right before the line started. While in line they have handheld menus to look at. The place inside is pretty small for indoor seating but they have plenty of outside seating. They also had snoop dog vibes which was cool. It felt more urban than country. Oh we also got the chocolate chip cookie, i wasn’t too much of a fan bc it was kind of dry (i think it was gluten free) but everything else that was cooked was amazing. OH ALSO my boyfriend went to the restroom and saw that they provided baby wipes and tampons which had us in awe bc that’s so nice. We came here bc biscuit head had a super long line. Im glad we came here though. This place definitely deserves the hype

Really enjoyed our stop here at the Whale in Haywood Commons. Stopped here for brunch and it was very good. We had the breakfast bowl and the biscuits and gravy. The "bowl" was a HUGE portion of tater tots. Gigantic! Easily shareable and very good. I also added bacon although it really didn't need it. We had a mimosa and a bloody Mary. The mimosa was fine but the bloody Mary was not very good... But they have a fun menu and worth checking out! Also a great atmosphere.

I can tell Haywood Commons is trying with their menu, offering interesting dishes with flavorful ingredients, but the final outcome was just ok for me. Pros: the food is fresh, lots of options for those with dietary restrictions, great outdoor space Cons: the flavor combos were just ok. We got the kale Caesar salad and the poke bowl. The kale salad is not your normal Caesar. It had pepperoncinis, which seemed odd but added good flavor without having overpowering vinegar. It also had parm and corn bread croutons. It promised anchovies on the salad and fish sauce dressing. I didn’t taste that salty, savory flavor at all. It fell flat. The tuna in the poke bowl was good, so was the seaweed salad. Everything individually tasted fine, but somehow the resulting sauce that was left and flavored the rice was not good. We ended up not eating the rice and just picked out individual ingredients.
