Mexicali Mexican Grill

A random visit to this restaurant turned to be a wonderful evening here. The ambience is good and this facility has a lot of seating indoor and outdoor. Our server was really nice and infact everyone in the staff was. We ordered the pineapple and the melon margaritas, wouldn't recommend as it's mostly syrup instead of the fruits you are better off ordering the standard margaritas. The guacamole was really creamy and the quantity was really really good and freshly made. The vegetable stir fry would be a recommended dish for vegetarians as it tasted really good. Pescado frita was a fried tilapia fish with the two sides of your choice. The fish was not seasoned well and was too oily. For dessert we had the tres leech cake and it was a little tight but flavourful. Would definitely recommend this place!

Service is great. But the food that's another story. I have had Mexican food from here to Mexico and this reminds me of the place in Vernon CT that a white guy owns and cooks at. I also tried a few different items on different days just to see if any thing changes but have been let down every time. Sorry Great workers drinks are ok for a 12 dollar margarita. That's about it.

Second time in a week. Guacamole was a treat. The first day I had the taco enchilada combo and it was good and the food hot and tasty. The second time I ate there, Baja Chimichanga it was ok. Food wasn't hot, despite the warning of a hot plate (it wasn't) and the rice and beans lukewarm. I don't know how the dropped the ball the second time. But I'd probably go again, just getting something simpler. The service was nice and they are prompt and good.

We always enjoy our time at Mexicali. The first time we visited was a few years ago and we had a Groupon for dinner. Since that time we've been back quite a few times (sans Groupon lol). The food is delicious and you get a decent amount for the price. We are so pleased to see that their meatless options have increased as well.
