Tropicana Eatery

My favorite Caribbean restaurant in the area. My one complaint is that they don't answer the phone, so it's impossible to place a takeout order ahead of time. Aside from that, I love it. Good sized portions, reasonable prices, and everything is prepared perfectly. Especially the jerk chicken. If I still lived down the block, I would eat here at least once a week like I used to. Now, I'll drive 30 minutes both ways every once in a while for it.

The food is amazing. The rest is blah, but who cares? I'm here for some of the best Jamaican outside the island. The Curried Goat is amazing with a strong thyme background and the sauce is just dripping in umami making the rice melt in your mouth. The Jerk Chicken burns your face off (in the most pleasant way). Seriously, skip this unless you like heat, in which case it's spectacular. The Ox Tail was also good, but I only had it once because the goat/chicken are both so good. Seriously, get some take out for home.

I was in this part of town and looked up a Caribbean restaurant. I decided to try this place with on the reviews. I got here just before 12 noon and I was able to be out within 15 minutes. I ordered a large oxtail with rice and peas and plantain, and the portions did not disappoint. I also noticed that the oxtail which was $20 was cheaper than typical Caribbean restaurants but they did not skimp on the portion. Service was satisfactory.
