As good as everyone says it is.
Note that almost all of the items on the bar need to be heated or cooked to completion.
Some look like you can just scarf em down, but ask about everything.
This being an outpost of molecular gastronomy (at about 8% of the cost of the famous places) means not everything is what it seems.
Great example of the variety of Spanish tapas. This place was jammed on a weekday. The line in and out was very energetic. Lots of great food and wine. Most people stand outside and eat and drink . Really a social event tied to food.
Omg this place is why I came to San Sebastián!!
I watched a YouTube video about food and tapas bars in San Sebastián and this bar was showcased as one of the best, so I had to check it out.
It's always packed (I went for lunch and dinner) but the food is great!
Def try the cod thing ...
This is without a doubt the best food I've ever had in my life. It's semi raw cod you have to keep on the mini grill they bring You for about 30 seconds , then place it on the cracker that's served which has caramelized onions and a special sauce on it!!!!!
YUM!
Then you drink the celery juice that's served with it.
If I come back to San Sebastián I'm definitely coming here again :)
The pinxtos were excellent. We were not familiar with most of the options so we decided to experiment and try all different ones. There was nothing that we didn't think was wonderful. Another benefit to us was the opportunity to sit inside on a rainy evening. As tourists who were tired from walking all day we passed up several other places with good reviews but no seating.
Now i know why this is top rated everything from the veg pintxos, down to the house dessert will try to come back miguel es el waiter .
The actual Bar Zeruko was closed for renovations. So we went to their sit down restaurant next door. Don't be intimated just because you don't see anyone standing around because it's not the same like the other pintxo bars. All I can say is WOW! In all honesty, it was the best place we ate when we were here in San Sebastián. Bar none! The food is very simplistic yet delish in every way. Everything was cooked just right. They maybe have only eight to ten things to order on their menu. I kid you not my wife and I tried all of them and none will dissapoint you. We highly recommend the fish and chips, razor clams, stone cooked tuna.... you know what? TRY THEM ALL! They don't have any pintxos in the open, since it's a sit down restaurant (actually my advise is to order hot pintxos anyways in any of the places where your here in San Sebastián) Let Miguel and Jose Marie we said hi!
Unbelievable pintxos that are above and beyond the rest.
We had a massive spread from the bar that included the prawn, sautéed mushroom, zucchini and tuna, egg with fish roe, soft shell crab, and the list goes on.
Battle for counter space or come early/late and snag a table. Don't pass this place up as it really is top notch!
We received a list from our hotel of food items we must try from each pinxto bar.
From Bar Zeruko, we were advised to try " La Hoguera" or "The Bonfire."
The presentation was fantastic and it tasted great!! You have to order this with the person over counter; the item won't be found on the counter.
Give it a try!!!
Foe everyones sake I will only post and review the very best in San Sebastian. With that said . This place is fantastic. The service is great and the food is perfect. Try as much as you can.
What a blast!
This is a cross between eating in a five star restaurant and taking the New York subway during rush hour.
This is a very fine pinxto bar in Donostia - with prices that are practically giveaways.
With this mix of quality and quantity, the place is totally mobbed.
Mobbed as in no available seats, no place to stand, no room on the street, forty people between you and anything you could possibly want.
So you are going to have to fight your way to everything
making the restaurant as much a contact sport and a reality tv show as much as a restaurant.
But it is SO WORTH IT.
The survival trick here is that the room may be totally packed - but the crowd moves.
There may be a solid wall of humanity between you and a table right now but tables open.
There may be seven people in front of the pinxtos you want, but that will temporarily thin out at some point.
You may need to get by twelve people to get to a waitress to put in an order.
But she will move or the crowd will shift, so ultimately you will get your shot.
The game is one of constantly watching the crowd and making a move on the place that has suddenly thinned out.
The two first jobs are
a) finding a table. These are always full but always evacuating so your opening can come at any time.
b) getting plates and drinks. this is easier. there is always "someplace" open at the bar - and if you can get to the bar you can get plates and drinks from the bartender.
Then - as long as one person is holding your table, the rest of you are free to try to take some of the pinchos off the bar.
Pinchos that make it all worthwhile:
a) sweet creamy cheese and apple on toast
b) gazpacho with a fluted cracker and iberian ham
c) a slim jim type chorizo sausage wrapped in a mexican tortilla
d) shrimp cocktail with a fried egg on top - except it is ham rather than shrimp in the shrimp cocktail
e) boudin, sardine and fried egg on toast
They have many many many more and we had many many more - but those are the five that sent me to the moon and back.
And don't forget the following things:
1) Two people ate very well for $30.
There are many dinners in Donostia that will cost you far more than that.
2) You won't get fat from eating a lot at Bar Zeruko.
You will work off all the calories fighting your way between the bar and your table.

Camareros especialmente amables y atentos
