Specialty's Cafe & Bakery

The new company I work for bought sandwiches, salads and sweet treats for a small departmental lunch gathering for a person retiring. I was totally impressed with the laying of fixings on the huge half sandwiches. All the food was super fresh and the bake goods.... well just looking at them added 10lbs on me. Would highly recommend the food! Couldn’t give 5 stars because I haven’t been to the joint. Take out or eat in. Taste buds will be happy!

After hearing rave reviews from my coworkers, I finally decided to try this place out even though it's a bit on the pricey side for me. I've tried the spinach and bacon salad, as well as the greek goddess salad, and I was pleased with both. I love that they come with a slice of super soft and delicious focaccia. Customer service wasn't as great as I expected it to be, though they tend to be very busy during lunch hours. I suggest ordering ahead if you plan on visiting between 11am-1pm. At the counter my friend ordered immediately before me (a salad) and she was called within five minutes, yet I waited over 10 minutes for my salad after she had already received her order. Overall a very clean and well-maintained building with plenty of indoor seating. I believe it's worth mentioning that a lot of homeless people hang out in and around here.

I am knocking off a star due to the fact that, while overall excellent quality of the food and beverage offerings, the lack of adequate staff to service the influx of customers leaves quite a bit to be desired. I believe that if Speciality's hired an employee or two more they would nip this problem in the bud. The atmosphere is upbeat, maybe a bit too loud with questionable accoustics to deflect loud voices (everyone in Sacramento seems to scream at each other!) and the background music playing. I would like to return on a sunnier, warmer day and take advantage of the attractive patio seating outside.

Restaurant: Speciality's at Capitol mall downtown has always pleased me with its ambiance and crowd culture. Its located in the basement of the building of Bank of the West and KPMG. They have some great technology embedded into their food management. They have one of the coolest online ordering portal and app. Also they have self ordering kiosks at the restaurant to skip lines and order. And all I do is order online and pickup my food from the pickup rack in the restaurant. No trouble whatsoever. They have rewards for ordering 12 or more items too. Food: They have a variety of food for all times of the day. Breakfast sandwiches, from veggies to meat ones, my fav is southwestern sandwich (checkout the picture). A bunch of salad varieties and dressings. I love the spinach and chicken(you can customize your salad) with poppy seed dressing. Soups differ everyday. I love the Thai Coconut Chicken Curry soup(checkout the picture). So delicious and authentic taste. Coffee: They have Peets coffee inhouse which makes it even better for coffee lovers. Overall a nice place to go with reasonable prices of food.
