The trip there alone is a highlight. Also the location of the restaurant couldn't be more rustic. What the cook prepares all alone in the kitchen is impressive. From 6 courses 3 were loosely on a star level (eel, scallop and the dessert). The remaining dishes were either overcooked (sea bream) or somewhat unbalanced (rice with calamari and the wagyu steak). The waitress was obviously very inexperienced and did not speak english. No problem for us, as we also speak spanish, but some neighboring tables had clear communication problems. A few basics should be there for an international audience. There is still potential up there. The bottom line is a clear recommendation, as the unique atmosphere easily balances out the criticisms.

This is my second visit to Mandala, the first some 18 months ago was a truly epic meal and incredibly memorable so I was excited to go back. We booked for dinner (a good idea as they can only seat a max 20 or so on the terrace) and they were happy for us to bring along our (v well behaved) dog. My initial surprise was to findout the menu had changed from A la carte (as before) to a 6 course set menu at €60 a head, which was rather more than I'd set out for and was a little annoyed this hadn't been mentioned at time of booking (it turns out having spoken to a few local friends I'm not the only one to have fallen into that trap). We were hungry and there, so decided to suck it up and took the plunge. There was a great use of flavours both the scallop and seabass dishes were quite simply out of this world and the desert and petit fors decadent and heavenly. The wine - Can Xarell a rose from Pollensa was an incredible accompaniment, with the most amazing honey tones that I've never experienced before. Sadly however the Andulsian gazpacho was massively too salty and the meat dish a little too well cooked for me and my guests liking, which was a real shame. The service was pretty good (given there were only 10 diners other than our group of 4) I'd hope so - I think she was new and a little shy. At €75 a head including wine and water it certainly wasn't a bargain, it was however a nice evening in a lovely little village with a few stand out dishes and some amazing wine.

Outstanding food, lovely location, charming service. After a rather hot and dusty day, we were not in the best mood for serious dining when we sat down at Mandala, but were rapidly soothed by the charming and attentive service, then delighted at the attention to detail in looking after us (one coeliac needing gluten-free food), then inspired by the superb cooking. The level of ambition is high, with bold flavours juxtaposed, and subtle ones carefully complementing each other, and the execution justifies the ambition. A meal to remember -bravo chef!
