The County Seat

Wrong order and burned food! My boyfriend and I went to The County Seat for a belated Valentine's Day dinner. The whole experience was awful. The waitress had a bad attitude as soon as we sat down, and was rude when we didn't order any alcohol and then again when I asked about allergens. I ordered the jerk wings and my boyfriend got a burger, two things which should have been quick because we hadn't eaten since breakfast. It took over 45 minutes to get our food, and when we finally did my wings were full on burned as was the underside of my boyfriend's burger. On top of that I was given BBQ wings instead of jerk. We were so hungry we just sucked it up and ate it. But then it took the waitress forever to bring our check after I asked for it and I had to wave her down for her to take it afterwards. Overall very frustrating experience, especially since we had eaten here once before on a much busier night and everything was fine.

I really enjoy going to see what is new on the Menu and trying the options. Roger and his team and very friendly and take great care of you. With the exception of the wings, my taste are quirky, every dish I have tried so far is exceptionally prepared, taste great and well presented. Roger takes great pride in doing his job in the kitchen and you can see he is passionate about what he does.

We finally stopped in today for the first time as we heard great things. We were not dissapointed. Wow. Doesn't look like much from the outside but all the presentation is in the food. Michelle took care of us and was fantastic. Crab cakes were OK and the Cesar salad dressing was not great. However the gargonzola bruschetta and med platter was amazing. Salmon cooked perfectly. We will be back for sure!!! Follow up 11/25/16. Have had 2 parties catered this year and will be having them do our Xmas party. Always come through. Great service, and food always. Owners are wonderful.

After many years we finally made the trip from Hackettstown to Newton's County Seat, why did we wait so long? Don't let the ragtag exterior put you off, inside is a warm and welcoming friendly pub with exceptional food. The wooden deco goes through the bar area into two dining rooms. When you get the menu in your hands you can't believe the abundance of choices. It's truly hard to choose. So we tried everything, the bruschetta was the best I've ever had. The Seafood Ceviche another favorite. Every appetizer had a dipping sauce that was good to the last swipe. Potato wrapper Shrimp, Fried Calamari with a honey sauce.. The the entrees, I'll let pictures speak for them. The County Seat has the best food in NJ. If you haven't been there, try it, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

We gave this place another chance after having mediocre service and food a year ago. We were even more disappointed this time!! We arrived during dinner time and ordered a drink and entrees. I decided on the special burger and hubby had the chicken pot pie. They were pricy but we decided that if the quality was good it would be worth the splurge. The burger arrived with steak sauce after I specifically asked to have it HELD. After I scraped off the fried onions, sauteed mushrooms and cheese that were smothered in the sauce my burger was hardly special. The meat was tasty but small in size for the $12.99. An order of oil soaked limp fries came with the meat. The chicken pot pie was much worse. A bowl with a slice of pie crust over a soupy chicken vegetable mixture was their creation of this comfy food. The chicken mixture was not thermal hot, at best it was lukewarm. it was also in need of seasoning to improve its bland taste. I am amazed at what a chef will allow to go out the kitchen door. This place could be a real winner but they are missing key ingredients. First of all the staff is non engaging except to the regulars around the bar. We waited to be seated for an extended time even though waitresses were talking and the place was not crowded. It seemed like it wasn't any persons responsibility to assist you. Finally the chef who was walking through the restaurant saw us waiting and seated us. At times you get the sense that the wait staff is there on time off rather there to serve you. There is not a friendly attitude or sense of encouragement with the menu. The waitress was cold and just blamed the kitchen when i mentioned the steak sauce. No ownership or attempt to make it right. High standards of customer service are needed and a better quality of food for the prices you expect and deserve better. I would not encourage you to try this place.....there are better and more deserving ones out there!
