I suddenly had a desire for good old, traditional fish and chips and remembered that The Coach and Horses did such a thing. However, only on Fridays…which it wasn’t. So homemade steak pie, mash and veggies it was. The Coach and Horses was, for many years, located in calle Cristo/Almirante Ferrandis/Post Office street, opposite El Pulguilla, and was always popular. It then moved, for short time, further up the street before moving again to calle El Barrio. It is now more eatery than bar due to the premises themselves. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed my steak pie (and pint of Amstel). The pie itself was very tasty, the meat tender and pastry fairly crisp. The carrots were nicely al dente and the peas were, well, peas. The only thing I would say that was not quite up to scratch, for me anyway, was the mash. Not that it was bad, but ever since I accidentally happened upon a cookery programme while channel hopping (can’t remember which one) and learned how to make beautiful, creamy mash every single time, I have become somewhat spoilt. Something with the consistency of the mash but can’t put my finger on it. However, I ate every bit and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was minimal but sufficient, food quality good, value for money was good, atmosphere quiet/subdued - probably due to only 3 tables occupied. Rating rounded up from a solid 3.5.

Extremely friendly man that served us ( think he was the owner?) , made a real fuss of our 2 year old daughter. Lovely food, especially the puddings. Definitely recommend.

Steak pie..... That is all. Best in Nerja. We've been coming to the coach and horses for many many years now and have never ever had a bad meal. Staff are lovely and friendly and like I said food is amazing. Would highly recommend.

Welcome to coach and horses. Romano

A much nicer bar/restaurant than the previous one. Just a little way from the previous location. We went there a few times and overall the service was good and the food very good. Mainly a British food menu, and done very well. The service was once rather slow, not as good as the other visits, and that was in June so not quite high season. Overall good and worth a visit.

Excellent pub food, very friendly and welcoming service. Their new location at the top end of Nerja offers far more space, both inside and out, than the old premises. I can recommend the home made steak pie and the chunky chips are straight from "Planet Chips"! But don't forget the rest of the menu though and leave room, if you can, for the apple pie and custard. I don't often frequent English pubs in Spain but this one is a treat, well worth a visit.
